A Digital Multimedia on Tipu Sultan and Bangalore. June 2009- July 2011
Design of 3D digital visualization, reconstruction, and walk-through of Tipu’s Palace Bangalore.
The Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan, the military commander and the de facto ruler of Mysore, is an 18th century structure. After careful research and documentation, SUI Digital reconstructed the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan. Through a multimedia video the project tells the story about Tipu Sultan in Bangalore. The video reconstructs the 18th century Palace in all its glory.
The project documented the summer palace and life of Tipu Sultan in context of development of Bangalore through the history. The Summer palace in Bangalore along with the fort in the heart of the city is protected and under Archaeological Survey of India. The wooden palace was covered with exquisite murals most of which have been lost due to lack of preservations and being painted over several times in the past. Project was aimed at documenting the structural details of the summer palace along with the contextual surroundings. An in depth historical research from the local, national and international was carried out to creating the time specific environment, ornamentation, details and use of the structure.
The project follows SUI’s method for using multimedia as a tool for digital preservation
- Documentation and measured drawing
- Historical research for building and the context
- Developing two dimensional drawings and patterns
- Three dimension models and simulation and clips
- Adding materials textures and paintings to the model
- Creating surroundings based on historical context
